Aftercare Advice

The following will help you to gain the maximum benefit from the massage treatment, that you have just received:

Over the next 24 hours:

  • Drink water or herbal tea
  • Practice deep breathing exercises

  • Avoid drinking stimulants and doing any strenuous activities

  • Eat light meals or snacks

  • Allow yourself as much time as possible to continue to relax

    Ongoing Care:

  • Find time for regular gentle exercise & stretches

  • Find time for regular relaxation

  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet and drink plenty of water

  • Listen to your body and your baby

    Possible side effects:

  • It is perfectly normal to feel a little different after having a massage. This is only temporary, and is due to the flushing out of the toxins released by the massage treatment.Therefore you may experience:

  • Tiredness & lethargy

  • Aches and pains

  • Increased thirst

  • Increased urine and bowel movements

  • Mild headache

  • Nausea

  • The baby may move more due to increased blood flow and nutrients, but should settle after treatment.

  • The baby may move less after a massage as both of you will be relaxed, this is completely normal. (However, if you do not feel the usual movements within 24hrs, this will be nothing to do with the massage and you should not hesitate to contact your midwife immediately)
